I loaded KODI on to an amazon fire TV stick (use android phone apps2firetv ti install) and can play everything on my NAS (video and audio) on the fire tv to a remote TV - built in apps on smart TV's are usually pretty hideous anyway. KODI will even play some formats that VLC has trouble with and can also play ripped DVD-s (to ISO) with full menus etc. OK not the answer to the OP's question but why not use VLC or KODI.
